Frequently Asked Questions
What can I expect during my first visit?
Your first session begins with a brief conversation about your history, current needs, postural analysis, and preferences. From there, the work is fully tailored to you, with ongoing check-ins to ensure comfort and consent throughout.
How do you approach consent during sessions?
Consent is ongoing and collaborative. We’ll discuss preferences before beginning, and you’re always welcome to request adjustments in pressure, positioning, or technique at any time.
What if I feel emotional during my massage?
Emotional release can be a natural response to bodywork, especially during times of transition. If that happens, you’ll be supported without judgment or pressure to explain—this is a space where your experience is respected.
Do I need to know what kind of massage to book?
No. All sessions are customized and priced by time, not modality. Choose your preferred practitioner and session length, and the approach will be tailored to your goals and the style of care they offer.
What is a therapeutic massage?
Therapeutic massage is focused, customized bodywork designed to address areas of tension, discomfort, or imbalance. While relaxation remains an important part of the experience, therapeutic sessions involve more dynamic engagement—using myofascial, somatic, or lymphatic techniques to work with specific patterns in the body. For clients primarily seeking restorative, relaxation-centered massage, that approach is also available within our practice.
How soon after birth can I receive massage?
Massage can be delivered as soon as vital signs are stable, but depend on your comfort and readiness. Sessions are adapted to support recovery, rest, and nervous system regulation.
Is massage safe after a cesarean?
Yes, with thoughtful pacing and positioning. Scar-support techniques may be introduced gradually and only with your comfort and consent.
How am I positioned during a pregnancy massage?
We adjust positioning throughout pregnancy based on your comfort and stage. Side-lying support or a specialized pregnancy bolster may allow you to lie face down comfortably, when appropriate. Your safety and comfort guide every decision.
How is a postpartum massage different from other kinds?
Postpartum massage acknowledges the physical and hormonal shifts after birth, including feeding patterns, new body mechanics, and potential birth trauma. The work is restorative, not rushed, and centered on your recovery.
Can I bring my baby to my appointment?
Yes, infants are welcome during designated infant-friendly postpartum sessions. We understand the realities of early postpartum life and work to create a supportive environment.
What does postpartum support include?
Support may include feeding guidance, newborn care education, emotional reassurance, and practical systems to ease daily life. The work centers the mother or primary caregiver first, recognizing that when they are supported, the whole household benefits.
Who do you serve?
We serve women, queer and trans men, LGBTQIA+ individuals, and those navigating pregnancy, postpartum, reproductive, or gender transitions. Our care is intentionally affirming and inclusive.
Do you provider gender-affirming bodywork?
Yes. We offer consent-forward care that may include post-operative support and breast/chest massage. Our goal is to create a space where clients feel respected and seen.
Are services available for cisgender men?
Services for cisgender men are available by referral from established Willow & Nest clients or trusted partners. This allows us to maintain the safety and focus of our practice.
What's the difference between a membership and care series?
Membership offers ongoing monthly support at a preferred rate. Care series are structured, short-term commitments designed for specific transitions or deeper pattern work.
